Charlie Billups is a Puerto Rican born photojournalist based in Chicago, Illinois. He has been a photographer since 1975, trained by his stepfather, one of Puerto Rico’s top photographers. Charlie also was a U.S. Navy photographer based on a nuclear submarine. His work has appeared on the pages of various print publications and websites, including collaborating photographer for Chicago Public Radio/WBEZ.org, La Voz del Paseo Boricua newspaper and Chicago’s Latin culture magazine Aguzate.org among many.
Charlie has been at the forefront of major event photography from a spiritual and activist perspective photographing social issues that require distinct spiritual and activist perspective to achieve social change. Charlie has devoted much of his energy to visually document the ever-expanding Latin American music scene in Chicago.Many of these events are posted on his website charliebillups.com and in his blog Charlie Billups Tumblr.
